Sarah Colburn serves as FFEN’s Development and Communications Manager.

She comes to FFEN with more than 25 years of experience in journalism writing about non-profits, food insecurity and the barriers to achieving stable housing. She is an award-winning reporter and has worked as a freelancer and editor in the industry and now brings her storytelling experience to FFEN.

Sarah’s strength is melding together the stories of lived experience and well-researched statistics. Using that skill set, she aims to capture the current needs of Minnesota’s food shelves and tell the stories of how FFEN works with its food shelf partners across the state.

Sarah has a long history of community involvement, spending more than a decade helping to lead a community non-profit that served 1,200 families in her region. That experience connected people, created and strengthened community bonds, and provided vital role models for kids. The volunteer-led nonprofit launched multiple programming campaigns throughout the year and held large-scale events open to people from across the Midwest.

Outside of work and volunteering, Sarah enjoys swimming, camping, showing hospitality to family and friends and a fingers-crossed approach to gardening.
