Carla Kohler vacates her FFEN board position

Thank you to Carla Kohler for serving on FFEN’s board of directors for the last two years.

Kohler has spent more than a decade working to improve the health of Minnesotans. She spent many years as director of community health initiatives at Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES). Then, she joined Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Center for Racial & Health Equity, tackling the leading causes of preventable disease – commercial tobacco use, physical activity, and unhealthy eating.

Her goal has been to transform communities and create a healthier state while increasing access to food, especially fresh foods in communities experiencing the greatest health inequities.

“As a board member, I was quickly impressed by FFEN’s  level of commitment to advancing healthy food access and food security by adapting their approach to meet community partners where they are at – it is not a cookie-cutter approach. I know well the essential role FFEN played in the development of the brick-and-mortar food shelf in my previous role. Support like this to partners is essential and crucial for many organizations to have the opportunity to support and reshape the Hunger relief sector in Minnesota,” Kohler said.

While Kohler is leaving her board work, she said she will continue to advocate for, and be a supporter of FFEN.  “I have learned so much and gained much insight on how to advocate for hunger relief in Minnesota,” Kohler said.
