Demitri Gallegos was searching for organizations that could use support with data when he discovered FFEN.
“What appealed to me is how FFEN focuses on healthy foods and really centers shopper needs,” he said.
Gallegos applied and interviewed and began this month as a data analysis and visualization intern with FFEN. He earned his undergraduate degree in data science from George Mason University and is excited to see how FFEN uses data to make informed recommendations that improve food shelves.
“I really like the idea that you can improve by looking at the past and using empirical data,” he said.
For Gallegos, data tells a story. He most recently volunteered with a Florida nonprofit that supports at-risk youth, further reinforcing his interest in using data for positive community impact.
Gallegos lives in Virginia and, in his spare time, enjoys playing baseball and going salsa dancing with friends. Baseball sparked his early love of numbers and statistics—an interest that ultimately led him to study data science.
