MPCA funds place focus on reducing food waste and managing fresh foods
FFEN is focused on providing food shelves with the data, tools, and training to best serve their communities in dignified and sustainable ways.
Part of that work includes supporting food shelves to effectively manage increased fresh, perishable food items in a way that reduces food waste and ensures a positive shopping experience at the food shelf.
FFEN received funding from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) to work with 10 food shelves, documenting best practices and creating tools to share with food shelves across the state. This includes making three training videos that food shelf leaders will be able to use to train and onboard their staff and volunteers on effective fresh food management and merchandising.
These training videos were filmed at Basic Needs Food Shelf in Cottage Grove under the direction of Spoke 612 Productions in Minneapolis. The videos are expected to roll out to food shelves for use by early summer.
