Title: Community Engagement Manager

Share about your professional experience (and background)?

My first work experience out of college was with a marketing agency in California that worked with all nonprofit clients. In many ways, this set the course for my path and was the start of my interest in nonprofit work. After relocating to Minnesota in 2003, I had a few opportunities to work with volunteer-based and nonprofit programs which ultimately led to my role in corporate social responsibility at a law firm, where I spent the majority of my professional working career so far. Since leaving my corporate job last year, I took on a couple of short-term positions with local nonprofits and am excited to now land at FFEN.

What is the focus of your work at FFEN?

FFEN’s Community Engagement Manager is a new position that will lead the strategy development and implementation for expansion of our unique skilled volunteer program. In this role, I will be responsible for deepening and growing organizational and individual relationships that drive volunteer and intern recruitment to meet the needs of food shelves engaged with FFEN’s no-cost consultation services.

What most interested you about FFEN?

In my prior role, I was able to partner and work with a wide range of nonprofit organizations. I was interested in making the transition to the nonprofit sector and was especially aware of the role food security and nutrition has in creating strong, vibrant and equitable communities. When I learned about FFEN, I knew I wanted to be involved in their work because of the valuable role they play in supporting food shelves and the communities they serve.

What are you most excited about in your role?

I love working with people and volunteers, encouraging inclusivity and inspiring action to strengthen our communities. I am also looking forward to working with the many food shelves across our state who are providing essential services and meeting basic needs. I know I have a lot to learn!

What do you like to do in your free time?

My two kids, ages 13 and 11, keep me pretty busy, mostly driving them around to their various activities. I also enjoy spending time outdoors, especially during the short Minnesota summer. Some of my favorite activities include walking around the lakes, biking, hiking and paddle boarding.
